What is a Cyanotype?
A cyanotype is a photographic printing process renowned for producing stunning blue and white images. This creative technique was originally developed in the 19th century, thanks to the inventive mind of Sir John Herschel.
For my own cyanotypes, the process begins with the crafting of collaged negatives. These negatives are inspired by the landscape, drawing inspiration from the intricate patterns, textures, and layers that surround us. Each piece is handmade and unique. After this creative step, I proceed to coat a silk surface with a photosensitive solution containing ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. Here's where the real magic happens: when I expose my collaged negatives to direct sunlight, the solution undergoes a chemical reaction creating a vivid blue pigment.
